  • I'm trying to create a word document based on some data in an Access database, and using some rather convoluted business logic. I don't want to have to field a document template with my application, so I would like to create this document from scratch, each time the user selects this option.I've figured out the processes for opening Word (with either GetObject or CreateObject), and creating a new document based on the normal template. What I need to know now is how to:1. Insert text into a blank document. I've found a couple of posts on how to place bookmarks, and paste text at the bookmarks, but this is not possible without sending the document template.2. Format text as bold/underline (Would like to turn this on and off prior to inserting some of the text), and then return the format to normal3. • Convert Data From Unnormalized Table
  • When I first started using Access and had no understanding of normalization I made a database for scientific data whose data table contained fields for SampleID, DataID, and one each experiment we conducted and we put data in it. This table contained over 100 fields. I later realized my error and made a new database whose data table contains the following fields: SampleID, DataID, Property, Method, Numeric Results, TextResults, and Units. Is there a way I can get the from the old table into the format of the new table with out manually retyping all of it? I'd like the field names to go into the Property field and any value in the table to go into the results field. One record from the old table would have between 1 and 10 records in the new table. It would be alot less work to fix the records from that point and produce fewer typing errors. Thanks. Marcie

  • I have installed the "Contact Mangement" Database. The problem I am having is when I open the Contact Details Form in the design view and then Insert a new page, two items show through from the first page. The Address Label and the + - Images label. I loaded this from the Access 2007 featured on line templates. I just can't seem to figure out how to have them not show on that second page, or second tab. Oh, Also, if I copy the contacts data group (Name, address etc..) and past it on the second page they show through to the first page with a slight alignment issue it really show up.   • I have some clients (there are about six team members) working on anAccess 2003 Front End which is connected by a WAN to an Access 2003Back End some hundred or so miles away.When the application starts there are some housekeeping operationsthat take place (some once a day when the first person logs on, otherswhen anyone logs on) before the initial screen is displayed. When theback-end used to be hosted locally the time to display the firstscreen was a matter of five or ten seconds. Now that the back-end ison the WAN it typically takes TWENTY FIVE MINUTES before the firstscreen is displayed.I've tested the network connection by copying the back-end database inits entirety onto a local machine. It's only 55 Mb and the copy tookabout 55 seconds. I've also configured the application to connect tothe local copy and it runs much, much quicker.Since the network connection *seems* ok, can anyone suggest any otherpossible candidates for the unusable latency that my clients areexperiencing? They are a small team in an enormous organisation witha very uncooperative IT Support department.ThanksEdward

  • I have to fix a screwy access database made a long time ago. It has a linked table going to a DBF file. The connect string for the table is:ODBC;DSN=Visual FoxPro Tables;SourceDB=\\DPH53501\VOL1\Unitdata\Central_Ops\FCM Cornerstone Reports\FCMData;SourceType=DBF;Exclusive=No;BackgroundFetch=Yes;Collate=Machine;Null=Yes;Deleted=Yes;The user receives an email attachment and saves the attachment at the designated path. The attachment is an Excel spreadsheet with file extension xls, but is renamed and saved as dbf. I don't know what process is used by the sender and whether it's really made as an Excel spreadsheet or Foxpro file.Things worked a long time, but the file format has changed to have different columns. Personnel changed, too. Whoever linked the table isn't here anymore.When I try to make a new link I'm unable. If I use dbase (dbf file type) III, IV, or V it says I have to have an index table, too. There is no index table associated with the previous linked table, so that probably isn't right. If I try to use ODBC as indicated in the previous connect string, there are Foxpro files, Foxpro tables, and Foxpro database, as options in the dropdown and none of them work.If I try to use Excel or "Foxpro files", I get a message saying "you cannot use ODBC to import from, export to, or link an external Microsoft Jet or ISAM table to your database". Possibly I should be able to use one of these and this is an install or configuration issue.How can I tell what the attachment is? Excel will open it. The dbf file type is associated with Excel on this machine.Help would be appreciated.

  • I've read lots of posts recommending not to store images in an Access database, and I usually just store pointers to the images. However, I'm trying to figure out whether it is possible to store the images in the db and extract them from the db at runtime.Specifically, I am working on an application which, among other things, creates several different PowerPoint slides (this is working pretty well so far). Now, I have to figure out a way to put these images in the upper left and right corners of the document, without deploying a .ppt template. So, the first step is to figure out how to store and retrieve these images.I also use these images in multiple Access reports and forms, so storing the image and then filling (somehow) the Access report and form image controls when these forms or reports are loaded would significantly reduce the size of my Access application.Is this a stupid idea? This report must be divided by each department. Currently it says there is a problem in the "FROM" line but has also said there is problems in the "INNER JOIN" areas. Because the data set is so large, I can only keep thefull set of the current data. But it's become increasingly importantto find a way to log any changes that are made to the data from day today.The best advice I've received so far is to try the DISTINCTROWpredicate in SQL. That would be great if we weren't talking about somany records. Not only would I exceed the limits of Access in shortorder, I would also be storing a lot of redundant data.What I really would like to end up with is a log table for each maintable that is almost an exact copy.   • I'm looking to create some software in Access2007 with a good deal of split forms with datasheets taking up most of the screen. I have a nice little button to Show/Hide fields that works well. I do a DoCmd.save after the call to show/hide fields so the new datasheet layout is saved. This is similar to most of the Microsoft templates.All works well.Now I change the database to an ACCDE.No more saving allowed.Anyone have a good solution to replace this functionality? Something to think about with newer versions of Access as well (can datasheets work and be flexible with columns shown/not shown in an ACCDE). You can change the layout just not leave the form and come back with it remembering the layout. In my case it's not much good if it doesn't remember.Would love to hear any ideas,Mark

  • I am trying to design a database timesheet/clock for a department that needs to track daily time in, lunch out, lunch in, daily time out.I don't want the associates to be able to manipulate the time in any way and started with using the date/time stamp from the system but with that field, I'm not finding that I'm able to calculate the hours worked for an employee as I'm creating 4 records for that day and I'd like to somehow create one record for the employee for a given day.They basically need to be able to go and 'punch in' and 'out' when the time comes and have that time 'stamped' from the system and not manually put it in themselves.Is there a way to set this up so that the employee can enter their time in/out or have 4 entries for one day or even just two if no lunch, and have that time 'stamped', like a "Now()" so that they not enter the time (honesty issues) AND be able to calculate the hours worked in a report?   • Access 2007 running on Windows XP. Report is a multipage letterformat and Access is not handling paging correctly when a text field,which can span multiple pages, is followed by a page break and finalpage. The letter report is called from a form where the text isentered. Here's what happens: If text can fit on a single page thereis no problem. If text grows and extends to the next page, a blankpage is displayed after the text and then the final page isdisplayed. Access gets confused calculating the number of pagestoo. It includes the blank page in the current page count but thetotal page count doesn't include the blank. For example if 5 pagesdisplay, the footer will display page 4 of 4 on the blank page andpage 5 of 4 on final page! note: When the page break is removed,there is no problem.Also I tried getting the text from a database column rather than fromthe form but still the same problem.

Han er flink til å stikke innom når han først er i Sverige.Heidi sliter fortsatt med sin ME men hun er nå adskillig bedre, synes jeg. Hun har nylig kjøpt seg bolig på Gressvik som heldigvis ikke er mere enn 6-7 år gammel så der behøver ikke Sverre å gjøre så mye ennå.Nytt kjøkken og dobbelt så stort er det blitt i huset til Yvonne. Veggen mellom kjøkkenet og "kammerset" er slått ut så det er blitt virkelig bra.Her hjemme holder vi også på med påbygging men det har i det siste stått litt stille på grunn av kjøkkenet hos Yvonne. I morgen skal det startes der igjen, så det blir nok bra.Badet er så godt som ferdig, det mangler bare å liste inn vinduet og sette inn skyvedør som ligger ferdig og venter.Soverummet er også "nesten" ferdig. Der mangler det parkett og tapetsering + noe småtteri. I løpet av uken blir det nok ferdig der også. Sverre har en veldig flink snekker som medhjelper eller som sjef, kan vi heller si.Nå er det nok skryt om hvor flinke vi har vøri(fikk ikke til ae). Hvis jeg får det til kan jeg prøve å sende noen bilder. Ha ha Det der hørtes veldig flott ut.Så vil jeg få ønske dere alt godt fremover og ser frem til å høre fra dere igjen.PS.   • I am trying to do a time calculation. Here is the scenario. A call comes in at 4pm and there is a 4 hr turnaround time to respond, business hours. The Work hrs are from 8am-6pm.   • When I run my databases I would like to have the screen display only the forms in my database, not parts of the MS Access program or engine such as the menu bar at the top ("Home", "Create", etc.) and the "Quick Access Toolbar".
