I am having a problem compacting & repairing our data base. it is giving us
an error ( you attempted to open a database that is already opened
exclusively by user on a machine, Try again when the datebase is available).
Whe I look in the LDB file I am the only one in it. I asked our IT people to
force it closed and got told they don't know what I am going on about.
1. Can some one explain how I can do it
2. Explain in dedtail what I need the IT guys to do
Thanks
Compact & Repair Problem
Re: Compact & Repair Problem by Gina Whipp
MarkS,
Have you tried exiting the databse and making sure the .LDB has been
deleted? It should also be noted you don't want your IT guys to force the
close of a database because someone might be in it right in the middle of
something and you will cause them to lose their work or worst you will
corrupt the database. So the first order of business is to check that the
.LDB actually deletes when everyone is out of it.
Once you confirm that report back with the results.

Re: Compact & Repair Problem by Gina Whipp
Then have the IT guys check your permissions. Sounds like you don't have
delete permissions which is why the .LDB is still showing. That is why you
can't Compact & Repair.

Re: Compact & Repair Problem by UtfBQnVuak
In the past, I have experienced the same problem several times. Since I have
administrative rights to the drive, I knew that was not the problem. IT
would cycle the drive my database was on and it normally deleted the .ldb
file. One thing you can try, 1) do a control, alt, delete and look at the
task manager. See if you have multiple sessions of access running at the
same time. If so, end all sessions and try it again. Also, when you exit
access, if you use the 'X' in the top right hand corner of the screen, it
does not always delete the locking file. ALWAYS either use a command button
to exit or do the File>exit method.
Hope this helps.

Re: Compact & Repair Problem by Gina Whipp
MarkS,
What happens if you simply try to delete the .LDB? Of course, insuring no
one else is in it? Another thought, do you leave any Recordsets Open?
Also, is Name AutoCorrect unchecked?
