  • I am fearful of modifying the unicode property programtically with the following snippeApplication.CurrentDb.TableDefs("Table1").Fields("Field1").Properties("UnicodeCompression").Value = TrueI have some 30 tables that participate in relationships that I would like to set uncode to yes to see if the performance can be imporved.When I set the property manually I get messages during the save "Errors were encountered during the save opoeration. "Data type were not changed." .. "Indexes were not added or changed". If I manually delete the relationship there is no issue with the save.Because of the number of changes required the VBA snippet would work well but I have no idea what is happening to the Indexes and relationships in the darkness of night so to speak. If I do it manually, first deleting the relationship and then restablishing the relationship I have a higher degree of confidence but it is a lot of steps and work I could easily mess up.Does anyone know what I can expect if I use the VBA snippet?

Sometimes there was one and sometimes there were many, and it always worked great. I have since converted the files to .mde files. Now it only deletes one .mde file. • Contact Management Database Problem
  • I have installed the "Contact Mangement" Database. The problem I am having is when I open the Contact Details Form in the design view and then Insert a new page, two items show through from the first page. The Address Label and the + - Images label. I loaded this from the Access 2007 featured on line templates. I just can't seem to figure out how to have them not show on that second page, or second tab. Oh, Also, if I copy the contacts data group (Name, address etc..) and past it on the second page they show through to the first page with a slight alignment issue it really show up. I would like the user to click the button and the list boxs would populate with all items that appear more than 15 times in the table. lstPart would show all of the line items that appear 15 or more times in the category.I am a little confused on how to code this. • Cannot Link Foxpro File As Table, Access2000
  • I have to fix a screwy access database made a long time ago. It has a linked table going to a DBF file. The connect string for the table is:ODBC;DSN=Visual FoxPro Tables;SourceDB=\\DPH53501\VOL1\Unitdata\Central_Ops\FCM Cornerstone Reports\FCMData;SourceType=DBF;Exclusive=No;BackgroundFetch=Yes;Collate=Machine;Null=Yes;Deleted=Yes;The user receives an email attachment and saves the attachment at the designated path. The attachment is an Excel spreadsheet with file extension xls, but is renamed and saved as dbf. I don't know what process is used by the sender and whether it's really made as an Excel spreadsheet or Foxpro file.Things worked a long time, but the file format has changed to have different columns. Personnel changed, too. Whoever linked the table isn't here anymore.When I try to make a new link I'm unable. If I use dbase (dbf file type) III, IV, or V it says I have to have an index table, too. There is no index table associated with the previous linked table, so that probably isn't right. If I try to use ODBC as indicated in the previous connect string, there are Foxpro files, Foxpro tables, and Foxpro database, as options in the dropdown and none of them work.If I try to use Excel or "Foxpro files", I get a message saying "you cannot use ODBC to import from, export to, or link an external Microsoft Jet or ISAM table to your database". Possibly I should be able to use one of these and this is an install or configuration issue.How can I tell what the attachment is? Excel will open it. The dbf file type is associated with Excel on this machine.Help would be appreciated.

• Open Multiple Instances On One Pc...
  • Hi,We have a bunch of access adps used as front ends for SQL server databases and recently converted to Access 2007. The problem is that Access 2007 apparently wants to modify the adp which is causing two issues.First, because the adp is opened for writing, attempting to open a second instance forces the second instance to be opened in "read only" mode which displays a save as dialog to save a copy of the adp under a different name. Because it's connected to an SQL server for data storage, there is nothing in the adp that should be changed...so opening in read only mode would be fine if not for the warning message and "save as" option. In fact...opening in read only mode would fix the secon issue...The second issue is that we use a "loader app" which examines the date/time stamp of the adp to determine if it's the latest version. Since the file is always opened for reading...the file date/time stamp gets updated every time the adp is opened. That is interfering with our ability to determine if there is a newer version available.So...what I'm looking for is a means to suppress the read only warning. I can understand displaying a warning if it's opening the file as read only because of a file lock. But if I'm opening the file read only by using the "/ro" command line switch, do I really need a warning? It seems silly to warn me about something that I'm obviously doing deliberately. And it's down right aggravating when there is no way to override that warning.

• Storing Images In Access
  • I've read lots of posts recommending not to store images in an Access database, and I usually just store pointers to the images. However, I'm trying to figure out whether it is possible to store the images in the db and extract them from the db at runtime.Specifically, I am working on an application which, among other things, creates several different PowerPoint slides (this is working pretty well so far). Now, I have to figure out a way to put these images in the upper left and right corners of the document, without deploying a .ppt template. So, the first step is to figure out how to store and retrieve these images.I also use these images in multiple Access reports and forms, so storing the image and then filling (somehow) the Access report and form image controls when these forms or reports are loaded would significantly reduce the size of my Access application.Is this a stupid idea?   • I previously used Access 2003 almost everyday until I switched jobs. So its been a year and I went to create a new query in an existing database and the normal query wizards weren't there. I went to Tools, Add-ins, Add-in Manager and the add-in manager is blank. I go about adding in the normal add-ins I click Close and nothing happens.I go back into the Add-in Manager and its blank again.It won't load them.   • I am setting up an inventory program that requires a monthy billing report that shows each departments totals for products ordered and what their monthy charge is. This report must be divided by each department. Currently it says there is a problem in the "FROM" line but has also said there is problems in the "INNER JOIN" areas.   • I work in the quality field and over the years, I've developed a "Calibration Database" and a "Troubles Database" that I have used at a couple of different companies.   • One of the user options within Access is to confirm action queries. I know a user can untick this option so that it doesn't alert them to all the queries that run when my database opens, but I wonder if anyone can suggest a way to set it programmatically to always untick the box.   • While I'm in the Immediate Window in Access I type the following calculation and it gives me the wrong answer, what could be causing this?? 100.70-100.69 1.00000000000051E-02 It should give me 0.01, no?The reason why I'm doing this is because I have a function that compares calculated fields and for some reason Access tells me it's not valid when it is in fact valid.This function does some comparisons like:If Me.txtField1 <> Me.txtField2 - Me.txtField3 then Valid = FalseElse Valid = TrueEndifWhen I debug, I see the values and it should return True, but instead it returns False.   • I'm working on some code to export the schema from an mdb. It's not letting me get the info on queries that are embeded in form dropdowns, list boxes, etc. Dim qd As QueryDef For Each qd In db.QueryDefs Application.ExportXML ObjectType:=acExportQuery, DataSource:=qd.Name, SchemaTarget:=sWhereToStore & qd.Name & ".xsd" Next qdWhen the above code runs it works fine except for what I mentioned. When it gets to a query that's in a form it tells me the query doesn't exist. For example in a form called "frmAddEditCertHolders" I have a combo box for states where the source for the query is just something like "Select * from tblStates". The name of the query for the combo ends up being this: ~sq_cfrmAddEditCertHolders~sq_cStateCode. If I do a debug.print qd.SQL it gives me the SQL for it but I want more than that. How can I get ExportXML to recognized these queries?When I run ExportXML on my forms, it doesn't give me any embeded query information.It also only lets you export xml for Select, Crosstb and Union queries.   • I'm looking to create some software in Access2007 with a good deal of split forms with datasheets taking up most of the screen. I have a nice little button to Show/Hide fields that works well. I do a DoCmd.save after the call to show/hide fields so the new datasheet layout is saved. This is similar to most of the Microsoft templates.All works well.Now I change the database to an ACCDE.No more saving allowed.Anyone have a good solution to replace this functionality? Something to think about with newer versions of Access as well (can datasheets work and be flexible with columns shown/not shown in an ACCDE). You can change the layout just not leave the form and come back with it remembering the layout. In my case it's not much good if it doesn't remember.Would love to hear any ideas,Mark

  • I am trying to design a database timesheet/clock for a department that needs to track daily time in, lunch out, lunch in, daily time out.I don't want the associates to be able to manipulate the time in any way and started with using the date/time stamp from the system but with that field, I'm not finding that I'm able to calculate the hours worked for an employee as I'm creating 4 records for that day and I'd like to somehow create one record for the employee for a given day.They basically need to be able to go and 'punch in' and 'out' when the time comes and have that time 'stamped' from the system and not manually put it in themselves.Is there a way to set this up so that the employee can enter their time in/out or have 4 entries for one day or even just two if no lunch, and have that time 'stamped', like a "Now()" so that they not enter the time (honesty issues) AND be able to calculate the hours worked in a report?   • Access 2007 running on Windows XP. Report is a multipage letterformat and Access is not handling paging correctly when a text field,which can span multiple pages, is followed by a page break and finalpage. The letter report is called from a form where the text isentered. Here's what happens: If text can fit on a single page thereis no problem. If text grows and extends to the next page, a blankpage is displayed after the text and then the final page isdisplayed. Access gets confused calculating the number of pagestoo. It includes the blank page in the current page count but thetotal page count doesn't include the blank. For example if 5 pagesdisplay, the footer will display page 4 of 4 on the blank page andpage 5 of 4 on final page! note: When the page break is removed,there is no problem.Also I tried getting the text from a database column rather than fromthe form but still the same problem.

  • I need some guidance and perhaps some inspiration. I'm working on a database containing a main form with 2 subforms side by side. Subform1 is a continuous form that has records about the positions a military unit has. Subform2 is a continuous form that starts out wth no records.Basic Subform1 record fields: UIC, Para, Line, Auth Str, Req StrCombo PK on UIC, Para, LineWhat I'm trying to do is to 'maybe' click a command button on a record in Subform 1 and have the data of that record append to Subform2. While doing this it should subtract 1 from Auth Str and Req Str, and change the appended record's UIC to the contents of an unbound text field on Subform2. If Auth Str and Req Str would end up being "0", then it should append then delete that record from Subform1. When the append to Subform2 takes place, it should either add that record, if it doesn't exist, or add 1 to the Auth Str and Req Str.In case the user made a mistake, Subform 2 will have a similar command button to carry out the same action.I was hoping someone could point me in the right direction.

In "select" mode, this query takes about two seconds to finish. In "make-table" mode however, it takes two hours.   • I have a database with two tables of relevance to the current problem. One is a record of WORK TITLES, with a PK autonumber field. The second contains a list of STUDENT WORK, which are populated with a studentId, and workId from the first table. I have created a query linking the two tables, and a form in which I can enter marks for each student. What I seem to have trouble doing is getting the form to put the current value of the average for the piece of work into the WORK TITLES table (a field showing in the form). I have played around with the field in which I enter the actual marks, and set the on Change property to DAvg("[Percentage]","ReviewPieceOfWork-Q","[ID]= [ID1] and [Percentage]<>0") where [ID] is the autonumber value, and ID1 is the alias of the field on the form (in other words, it calculates the average only for that piece of work). However, it seems to give me the value it was before the last change. If I put a local unbound field onto the form with the same syntax, it returns a different (correct) value. I have even tried changing the value to that of the unbound field but to no avail.Any ideas?

  • I am helping the owner of a table who inherited a database that needs to be re-disigned in the future. For now, she has a form where the user selects the employee name from a drop-down list. (The values are from a separate table.) When the name is displayed, a separate field displays the associated employee number (dlookup is used to display the number). The employee name is saved to a table but they also want to save the employee number. (I know this isn't good database design, but it isn't my db.) There is a lookup button on the mainform with code DoCmd.Requery "Lookup_results" followed by Me.Lookup_Results.SetFocus to populate the text boxes on the subform. I want to have a msgbox appear when the query returns no data. To do this I put this code in the GotFocus event of the subform: If Me.RecordsetClone.RecordCount = 0 Then MsgBox.... I have not set focus to any of the controls on the subform. So far everything works correctly....until I added another text box to the subform. Now the GotFocus event on the subform doesn't occur when there's no data. If I remove the newly added text box then everything works correctly again. Why not?   • This should be very simple but I cannot seem to get it to work. I have a form that has 2 combo boxes. The first one is the supervisor and the second is the specialist. I want the specialists to change when the supervisor is changed. I have read and re-read the postings that say to do a Me.Requery in the After Update event of the driving combo box (In this case - Supervisor). The supervisor combo box is driven by a query and the specialist combo box is driven by code on the Row Source. Since I am using both combo box values to feed other queries, I have moved each to textboxes.Supervisor is ComboBox 17 and the value goes to textbox 37Specialist is ComboBox and the value goes to textbox 52Everything works fine on the first supervisor chosen and I can change the specialist all day long with no problem.
