I am running Access 2002 service pack 3 on Windows XP professional service pack 3. I have an application that is shared by two users. They can both add invoices at the same time with no problem, however when one of them goes to add another Vendor (Vendor Master Table) that is not currently listed Access will not let her add the vendor and gives her an error that someone else is using the system. The settings in the advance tab of the Options drop down are as follows: Default open mode, Shared; Default record locking, No locks; Open databases using record level locking is checked. When I first started using Access and had no understanding of normalization I made a database for scientific data whose data table contained fields for SampleID, DataID, and one each experiment we conducted and we put data in it. This table contained over 100 fields. I later realized my error and made a new database whose data table contains the following fields: SampleID, DataID, Property, Method, Numeric Results, TextResults, and Units. Is there a way I can get the from the old table into the format of the new table with out manually retyping all of it? I'd like the field names to go into the Property field and any value in the table to go into the results field. One record from the old table would have between 1 and 10 records in the new table. Sometimes there was one and sometimes there were many, and it always worked great. I have since converted the files to .mde files. Now it only deletes one .mde file. I have installed the "Contact Mangement" Database. The problem I am having is when I open the Contact Details Form in the design view and then Insert a new page, two items show through from the first page. The Address Label and the + - Images label. I loaded this from the Access 2007 featured on line templates. I just can't seem to figure out how to have them not show on that second page, or second tab. I have some clients (there are about six team members) working on anAccess 2003 Front End which is connected by a WAN to an Access 2003Back End some hundred or so miles away.When the application starts there are some housekeeping operationsthat take place (some once a day when the first person logs on, otherswhen anyone logs on) before the initial screen is displayed. When theback-end used to be hosted locally the time to display the firstscreen was a matter of five or ten seconds. Now that the back-end ison the WAN it typically takes TWENTY FIVE MINUTES before the firstscreen is displayed.I've tested the network connection by copying the back-end database inits entirety onto a local machine. It's only 55 Mb and the copy tookabout 55 seconds. I've also configured the application to connect tothe local copy and it runs much, much quicker.Since the network connection *seems* ok, can anyone suggest any otherpossible candidates for the unusable latency that my clients areexperiencing? Hi,We have a bunch of access adps used as front ends for SQL server databases and recently converted to Access 2007. The problem is that Access 2007 apparently wants to modify the adp which is causing two issues.First, because the adp is opened for writing, attempting to open a second instance forces the second instance to be opened in "read only" mode which displays a save as dialog to save a copy of the adp under a different name. Because it's connected to an SQL server for data storage, there is nothing in the adp that should be changed...so opening in read only mode would be fine if not for the warning message and "save as" option. In fact...opening in read only mode would fix the secon issue...The second issue is that we use a "loader app" which examines the date/time stamp of the adp to determine if it's the latest version. Since the file is always opened for reading...the file date/time stamp gets updated every time the adp is opened. That is interfering with our ability to determine if there is a newer version available.So...what I'm looking for is a means to suppress the read only warning. I can understand displaying a warning if it's opening the file as read only because of a file lock. But if I'm opening the file read only by using the "/ro" command line switch, do I really need a warning? It seems silly to warn me about something that I'm obviously doing deliberately. I've read lots of posts recommending not to store images in an Access database, and I usually just store pointers to the images. However, I'm trying to figure out whether it is possible to store the images in the db and extract them from the db at runtime.Specifically, I am working on an application which, among other things, creates several different PowerPoint slides (this is working pretty well so far). Now, I have to figure out a way to put these images in the upper left and right corners of the document, without deploying a .ppt template. So, the first step is to figure out how to store and retrieve these images.I also use these images in multiple Access reports and forms, so storing the image and then filling (somehow) the Access report and form image controls when these forms or reports are loaded would significantly reduce the size of my Access application.Is this a stupid idea? I have a query that contains SSN's. The SSN's contain 10 characters, the first being a designator for branch of service or civilian. For example, SSN's beginning with "0" belong to Marines, while SSN's starting with "N" are Navy. What I need to do is filter out all Navy and Civilian personnel and show only Marines. I am setting up an inventory program that requires a monthy billing report that shows each departments totals for products ordered and what their monthy charge is. This report must be divided by each department. Currently it says there is a problem in the "FROM" line but has also said there is problems in the "INNER JOIN" areas. I work in the quality field and over the years, I've developed a "Calibration Database" and a "Troubles Database" that I have used at a couple of different companies. The databases are VERY basic - no fancy programming, etc. They are also not created with fancy opening screens, etc. I've worked for small companies where I was the only person entering and extracting data. Hi, I have an Access program that I package with Access runtime using office developer 2000. I sell this program to raise money for St. Judes Hospital and have very few install problems. I currently have a user that when he runs the setup program he gets an error stating that some system files need to be updated. He then gets an option to update the files and if he clicks yes something happens and then he get a message that setup needs to be run again. I am using an FTP process for transferring data. In the past I have done this several times using mdb databases. The user would download a file, the file would open and perform certain functions, close and open a different database.Using this system I was able to get new forms, tables, queries, etc. to the users. In the Autoexec macro of the file they downloaded and opened. I would use the copy object method to export new objects to the other databases. I am now using a similar FTP methodology but with mde files. Is there a way to export to and/or replace objects in an mde file, or do I have to replace the entire file? Basically, I store addresses with just the zip code and have a seperate table with city, state and zips. Looking to see if someone reading here might know the solution...A snippet (see below) of an Excel file that I tried Access linking to Excel...the Color "3R3" below links in Excel as #Num! (a dealbreaker).If I save as a DBaseIV, any Color NOT readable as a number arrives as a Blank.Also, saving as a DBF changes all the "GoPK" below to a Date..IE 9/10/09. I can deal w/ that in the VBA code I use working w/ the DBF. I use Access as a database for my library. One of the columns is for the ISBN number. When these begin with a zero Access removes it/them. I have a database with two tables of relevance to the current problem. One is a record of WORK TITLES, with a PK autonumber field. The second contains a list of STUDENT WORK, which are populated with a studentId, and workId from the first table. I have created a query linking the two tables, and a form in which I can enter marks for each student. What I seem to have trouble doing is getting the form to put the current value of the average for the piece of work into the WORK TITLES table (a field showing in the form). I have played around with the field in which I enter the actual marks, and set the on Change property to DAvg("[Percentage]","ReviewPieceOfWork-Q","[ID]= [ID1] and [Percentage]<>0") where [ID] is the autonumber value, and ID1 is the alias of the field on the form (in other words, it calculates the average only for that piece of work). However, it seems to give me the value it was before the last change. If I put a local unbound field onto the form with the same syntax, it returns a different (correct) value. Hi I need to compare two tables that have some overlapping data (from different sources). When I run my databases I would like to have the screen display only the forms in my database, not parts of the MS Access program or engine such as the menu bar at the top ("Home", "Create", etc.) and the "Quick Access Toolbar".
